Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look is the largest single release of GTA 6 information Rockstar has ever put out. It ran 26 minutes, it was captured on a retail PlayStation 5, and it turned a great deal of leaked guesswork into confirmed fact.

What was shown in the GTA 6 Extended Look?
26 minutes of PlayStation 5 gameplay, premiered on Netflix at 3pm ET on 27 August 2026 and released on YouTube and Rockstar's site six hours later. It confirmed the six-star Wanted system, the Criminal Profile reputation system, free character switching, carjacking difficulty tiers with a slim-jim minigame, fuel and engine-condition meters, fishing, and body-weight progression. It did not address frame rate, first-person mode, install size or the online component.

A great deal of what the community believed about GTA 6 had come from the 2022 breach and the August 2026 build leak. The showcase converted a large block of that into confirmed fact, on the record, in official footage.

What it showed of the world
The showcase moved between Vice City, the Leonida Keys and the wetlands, in daylight and at night, without an obvious cut for loading. Rockstar's stated figure of more than 600,000 unique NPC animations was demonstrated rather than asserted — crowd behaviour differs street to street, and individual pedestrians react to what you are carrying and how you are behaving.

What it did not address
Still unanswered after 26 minutes
UnconfirmedRockstar did not mention frame rate, first-person mode, install size, accessibility options, PC, or the online component. Reporting suggests base PS5 runs at 30 fps and that first-person is not present at launch, but neither has been confirmed by Rockstar and neither appeared in the showcase.
The omissions are as informative as the content. A studio that had a 60 fps performance mode would have said so in a showcase built to be compared frame-by-frame against a leaked 2025 build.
The Netflix arrangement
Netflix subscribers got the showcase six hours early, at 3pm ET, before it went to YouTube and rockstargames.com at 9pm ET. The deal was announced on 6 August 2026 with a 30-second teaser that also introduced what many took to be the game's theme song.
