Vice-Dale County

Vice City

Rockstar's Miami, rebuilt for the modern day and roughly twice the size of Los Santos. This is what is currently known about its districts — and about why fighting the police here is harder than anywhere else in Leonida.

Short answer

Is GTA 6 set in Vice City?

Yes — GTA 6 is set in modern-day Vice City and the wider state of Leonida, not the 1980s Vice City of the 2002 game. Vice City is Rockstar's Miami and is estimated at roughly twice the size of GTA V's Los Santos. Confirmed districts include Ocean Beach, Little Havana, Little Haiti, the Stockyard, Leaf Links and Washington Beach.

Not the 1980s

The single most common misconception about GTA 6 is that it revisits the neon 1986 of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. It does not. This is the same fictional city, decades later.

What that changes: the art deco is still there but weathered and monetised, the money is contemporary rather than cocaine-boom, and the culture Rockstar is satirising is social media, influencer wealth and short-form video — a modern city with an eighties skeleton.

Why Vice City is the hardest place to run

Three stars or more in Vice City is a genuine problem

Confirmed

Press previews single the city out: crowded streets and tight roads make higher Wanted levels significantly more dangerous here than elsewhere in Leonida. Escaping on foot through alleys and connecting streets is viable, and Rockstar has overhauled sprinting, vaulting and climbing partly to support it.

The same density that makes Vice City the most interesting place on the map makes it the worst place to be identified. It also complicates stolen-car delivery — vehicles arrive damaged more easily in narrow streets, and visible damage cuts what a fence will pay. The economy page covers this →
