Short answer

What do I actually need to know about GTA 6?

GTA 6 releases 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S for $79.99. You play as two switchable protagonists, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, in the fictional state of Leonida — Rockstar's Florida — with Vice City at its centre. The campaign runs about 80 hours. There is no multiplayer and no PC version at launch, no microtransactions in single-player, and the Wanted system now goes to six stars.

Ten facts, and then you are caught up

If you read nothing else on this site, read this list. Every item is Official or Confirmed tier — nothing here is a rumour.

  1. It comes out on 19 November 2026. A Thursday. It has been delayed twice and the current date has held since November 2025. Release date →
  2. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. No PS4, no Xbox One, no Switch 2, and no announced PC version. The PC question →
  3. $79.99, or $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. There is no Deluxe tier and no disc — the boxed version holds a download code. Editions →
  4. Two protagonists you switch between. Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, a criminal couple. Lucia is the first female lead in a mainline Grand Theft Auto. The cast →
  5. It is set in Leonida, not just Vice City. A whole fictional state based on Florida, with six counties. Vice City is the biggest city in it, in the modern day — not the 1980s. The map →
  6. The campaign is about 80 hours. That figure comes from Rob Nelson at Rockstar North, describing his own full playthrough.
  7. Six wanted stars, up from five. And police only respond when someone actually witnesses the crime. How the police work now →
  8. There is no multiplayer at launch. GTA Online's successor has not been announced, dated or described. More →
  9. No microtransactions in single-player. Rockstar confirmed there is no way to spend real money inside the story mode. The confirmation →
  10. Money gates the story. For the first time in the series, you have to earn cash to progress the campaign. The economy →

How to read the labels

GTA 6 has generated more misinformation than any game in history. Every non-trivial claim on this site carries one of four labels. They mean specific things, and you should read them literally.

OfficialConfirmedLeakedUnconfirmed
What each label means
LabelMeansTrust it?
OfficialSaid in writing by Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive — a newswire post, a press release, an earnings call.Yes.
ConfirmedVisible in official Rockstar footage (the trailers, the Extended Look) or reported first-hand by press who played or were shown the game.Yes, but details can change before launch.
LeakedFrom the CyberLeek build leak or the 2022 breach. Rockstar's DMCA takedowns effectively confirm the footage is real, but it is development footage.Probably real, possibly cut.
UnconfirmedInsider claims, analysis and speculation. Included because it is widely circulated, flagged because it is not evidence.No. Wait.

Three routes through the wiki

Pick the one that sounds like you. Each is three or four pages, in order, and takes about twenty minutes end to end.

1 “I just want to know when and what”

The buyer's route. When it lands, what it costs, what is in the box, and the questions everyone asks.

  1. Release date & delays — the date, both delays, and why a third is unlikely
  2. Editions & pre-orders — Standard vs Ultimate, and whether the bonus is worth it
  3. The FAQ — thirty-two questions, a sentence each

2 “Tell me how the game actually works”

The systems route. What Rockstar has rebuilt since GTA V, and how the new mechanics interact.

  1. Every gameplay system — switching, movement, combat, the phone, safehouses
  2. The six-star Wanted system — witnesses, evidence, and clearing a description
  3. The Criminal Profile — the reputation system replacing RDR2's honor
  4. Heists & money — why cash now gates the story

3 “What is going on with the leaks?”

The news route. The August 2026 build leak, the legal response, and what Rockstar has shown since.

  1. The news log — every dated development, newest first
  2. Leak timeline, 2022–2026 — the Lapsus$ breach through to CyberLeek
  3. What the Extended Look showed — and what it pointedly did not

Finding things

  • Search is the fastest route. The box at the top of every page searches all 37 pages, including news stories. Press / anywhere to jump into it.
  • The bar under the logo is the top level. Six sections, always visible, and the one you are in is highlighted.
  • Every page has an “On this page” box under the intro, listing its sections.
  • Every page starts with a Short answer box — a two-sentence version, if that is all you need.
  • Every page ends with Sources and four related pages worth reading next.
  • Lost entirely? The full page index lists every page with a one-line description and a date.
  • Hit a word you do not know? The glossary defines every GTA 6 term this wiki uses.

Common questions

Short, direct answers. Each one links to the section above that explains it in full.

What is the quickest way to understand GTA 6?#

Read the ten facts at the top of this page. They cover the release date, platforms, price, protagonists, setting, length, wanted system, multiplayer status, monetisation and the money-gated story — everything else on this wiki is detail hanging off those.

Is GTA 6 set in the 1980s like Vice City?#

No. GTA 6 is modern-day. The 1980s Vice City belongs to Grand Theft Auto: Vice City from 2002 — same fictional city, different era.

Do I need to have played GTA 5 first?#

No. GTA 6 is a new story with new characters in a different state. Shared brands establish it is the same fictional universe, but no returning characters have been announced.
