The leak
The full Leonida map leaked
The map is the single most consequential thing the August leak produced. It is also the thing Rockstar has been most careful never to show in full — and there are good reasons to hold it loosely.
Short answer
How big is the GTA 6 map and what did the leak show?
An alleged full map of Leonida leaked on 18 August 2026. It shows a state divided into counties — Vice-Dale, Mariana, Ambrosia, Kelly, Leonard and Lummox — with Vice City in the south-east, an island chain running south, and a second airfield beyond the main airport. Press estimates put Leonida at roughly twice GTA V's playable area. Rockstar has never published a figure and has not confirmed the leaked map.
What the leaked map shows
The image depicts the full state rather than the slice Rockstar has shown in trailers. Vice City occupies much of the south-east. Large rural and wilderness areas run north and west — considerably more of them than the marketing has implied. An island chain extends south of the mainland, and a second airfield sits somewhere along it, separate from the main Vice City International.
| County | Anchored by | Character |
|---|---|---|
| Vice-Dale | Vice City | The urban core, beaches and port |
| Mariana | Grassrivers, Leonida Keys | Wetlands, reef and island chain |
| Ambrosia | Ambrosia | Industry, sugar, biker country |
| Kelly | Port Gellhorn | Docks, warehouses, the forgotten coast |
| Leonard | Rural interior | Farmland and small towns |
| Lummox | Mount Kalaga National Park | Forest, canyon and river |
The road network is dense enough that community estimates put an end-to-end north-to-south drive at over half an hour. Full region-by-region guide →
On the size claims
“Twice the size of GTA V” is an estimate, not a fact
UnconfirmedThe figure comes from press who attended Rockstar's preview event and from community measurement of the leaked image. Independent comparisons have landed anywhere between 1.5× and 2× Los Santos plus Blaine County. Rockstar has published no area figure for Leonida and never published one for Los Santos either, which is why every comparison you will read is a reconstruction.
Water is not playable area
A large share of Leonida's footprint is ocean, wetland and reef. Some of it is genuinely traversable — airboats, boats and scuba diving are all confirmed — but square kilometres of open water are not equivalent to square kilometres of city. Treat any single multiplier with suspicion.
Why to hold it loosely
- It came from a 2025 build. Region boundaries, road layouts and points of interest all move during a final year of development.
- Rockstar has not confirmed it. The company has confirmed the leak is genuine material by filing takedowns, but that is not the same as confirming this specific image is the shipping map.
- Map screens lie. A minimap image tells you a road exists, not whether the building beside it can be entered.
What Rockstar has actually confirmed about the world
ConfirmedSix named regions, Vice City as the largest city, a modern-day setting, and a state that Rockstar describes as Leonida. Everything more specific than that comes from leaks or press estimates and is labelled as such throughout this wiki. Map page →
Common questions
Short, direct answers. Each one links to the section above that explains it in full.
How big is the GTA 6 map?#
Roughly twice GTA V's playable area, according to press estimates and community measurement of the leaked map. Rockstar has never published an area figure.
How many counties are in GTA 6?#
Six: Vice-Dale, Mariana, Ambrosia, Kelly, Leonard and Lummox.
Is the leaked GTA 6 map real?#
It came from the same leaked 2025 build as the gameplay footage Take-Two has filed takedowns over, so it is probably genuine — but it is a year-old development build and Rockstar has not confirmed it as the shipping map.
