2022 to 2026
The leak timeline
GTA 6 has been leaked twice on a scale no other game has experienced. This page describes what happened, what was in each leak and how Rockstar responded. It does not host, embed or link to leaked material.
Short answer
Are the GTA 6 leaks real?
Yes — the August 2026 CyberLeek leaks appear to be genuine footage from a playable 2025 GTA 6 development build. Take-Two filed DMCA takedowns and won court-approved subpoenas against Microsoft and Discord on 22 August 2026, which only happens over real copyrighted material. A separate 2022 breach by Lapsus$ member Arion Kurtaj leaked over 90 early clips.
This page's policy
What you will and will not find here
We describe what credible published journalism has reported about the GTA 6 leaks, and label it as leak-tier throughout the wiki. We do not host leaked footage, embed it, or link to places distributing it. Story spoilers from leaked cutscenes are not reproduced anywhere on this site.
The reason is practical as well as legal. Leaked development builds show a game that no longer exists — features get cut, renamed and rebuilt. Treating leak footage as the finished game is how most GTA 6 misinformation starts.
The CyberLeek leak — August 2026
A playable 2025 development build, not stolen clips
LeakedBeginning around 18 August 2026, an anonymous individual or group calling itself CyberLeek began publishing unreleased GTA 6 material. Reporting indicates the footage comes from a playable development build dated to 2025 — a materially different situation from the 2022 leak, which was a dump of captured video.
First wave
Gameplay videos and apparent images of the Leonida map begin circulating.
At least six videos and a full map
Footage shows Jason Duval playing basketball, driving, using a taser, flying a plane and driving supercars, alongside two story cutscenes with dialogue. A complete map of Leonida circulates.
Take-Two files a DMCA subpoena
Filed in the Southern District of New York, seeking “the identity of an alleged infringer or infringers.”
Court approves subpoenas against Microsoft and Discord
A New York District Court judge requires both companies to provide information linked to suspected CyberLeek accounts.
Takedowns continue
Rockstar has actively filed DMCA takedown requests against the footage throughout.
The takedowns are what confirm the footage is real
ConfirmedCompanies do not file DMCA notices over fabricated material — a takedown is an assertion of ownership. Take-Two's enforcement is the strongest available evidence that the CyberLeek footage is genuine Rockstar work.
What the 2026 leak revealed
Most of it was subsequently confirmed by the official Extended Look nine days later, which is the best possible outcome for a wiki: leak-tier claims that graduated to confirmed.

The 2022 breach
One of the largest breaches in video game history
OfficialIn September 2022, a member of the Lapsus$ group — later identified in court as teenager Arion Kurtaj — leaked more than 90 clips of early GTA 6 footage onto GTAForums. Rockstar confirmed the leak's authenticity and described it as one of the largest breaches the industry had seen.
What it showed
- Early builds of a modern-day Vice City
- Both Lucia and Jason in action — the first confirmation of a female protagonist, more than a year before Trailer 1
- Raw gameplay mechanics: robberies, police chases, dynamic environmental interactions
Aftermath
Rockstar stated it did not expect the breach to affect its development timeline. Kurtaj was subsequently prosecuted in the UK. The clips were pre-alpha and visually unrepresentative, which did not stop them being circulated for years afterwards as evidence of how the game “looks” — a lesson directly relevant to the 2026 footage.
The one thing 2022 got right
The 2022 leak established the dual protagonists and the modern Vice City setting fourteen months before Rockstar announced either. On the fundamentals, it was accurate. On presentation, it was useless.
How to read a GTA 6 leak
Three questions worth asking about any claim you see between now and 19 November.
1. What build is it from?
CyberLeek's footage is from a 2025 build. That is roughly a year of development behind the shipping game. Menus, HUD, balance, names and whole features can change in that time.
2. Has Rockstar responded?
A DMCA takedown is a strong signal of authenticity. Silence is not a signal of anything.
3. Is it footage, or someone describing footage?
The bulk of GTA 6 “leaks” online are second-hand summaries of second-hand summaries, and they degrade fast. The gameplay page separates what appeared in official footage from what did not, for exactly this reason.
Be careful with insider accounts
UnconfirmedA small number of reporters — Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson — have verifiable GTA 6 track records. A far larger number of social accounts do not, and the incentive to invent is substantial. This wiki cites the former and ignores the latter.
Avoiding spoilers before launch
The 2026 leak includes story cutscenes with dialogue. If you care about the plot:
- Mute “GTA 6”, “GTA VI” and “CyberLeek” on social platforms
- Be wary of thumbnails — leak content propagates fastest as still frames
- Community spaces vary wildly in moderation quality on this
- This wiki is safe: no leaked story content appears anywhere on it
