Six counties, one state

The map of Leonida

GTA 6 is set across the entire fictional state of Leonida — Rockstar's Florida. It is the first mainline GTA to span a whole state rather than a city and its outskirts, and by area it is roughly double GTA V.

Short answer

How big is the GTA 6 map?

GTA 6's map is the fictional state of Leonida, estimated at roughly double GTA V's playable area and about three times Red Dead Redemption 2's landmass. It spans six counties: Vice-Dale (Vice City), Mariana (Grassrivers, Leonida Keys), Ambrosia, Kelly (Port Gellhorn), Leonard and Lummox (Mount Kalaga National Park). Rockstar has not published an exact figure.

How big is it, actually

Rockstar has not published a number. What exists are press estimates from people who have seen the map, and they cluster consistently.

~2×GTA V playable area
~3×RDR2 landmass
~2×Los Santos, for Vice City alone
~11×GTA V's populated space

“Very big” is as specific as Rockstar gets

Confirmed

Press previews describe the map as very large without giving measurements. The most quoted comparisons: roughly double GTA V's playable area, around three times Red Dead Redemption 2's landmass, and Vice City on its own about twice the size of Los Santos.

The “70% bigger” figure

Unconfirmed

A widely repeated claim puts the map at about 70% larger than GTA V. It predates the Extended Look and does not reconcile neatly with the newer “roughly double” estimates. Both are circulating; neither is official.

The more useful framing is density, not area. The estimate that Leonida holds close to eleven times GTA V's populated space, alongside a reported 700+ enterable interiors, says more about how the map will actually feel than any square-mile figure.

The six counties

Leonida is divided into counties, each with its own economy, architecture and mood. This structure is what lets Rockstar move the story across an entire state rather than around one city.

Where this comes from

County names and internal place names largely surfaced through the August 2026 map leak and earlier leaked material, then were partly corroborated by official footage. Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga are officially named by Rockstar. The finer subdivisions are leak-tier.

Vice City — Vice-Dale County

The centrepiece. Rockstar's description is characteristically pointed: “the glamour, hustle, and greed of America captured in a single city.” Pastel art deco hotels, beaches, and the cruise ship capital of the state.

It gets its own page because the district list alone is substantial. Vice City districts and landmarks →

Roughly twice the size of Los Santos

Confirmed

Vice City alone is estimated at around double GTA V's Los Santos, before the rest of the state is counted. It is dense, crowded and built on tight roads — which is a gameplay fact as much as a geographic one, because it makes police pursuits there genuinely difficult. See the Wanted system →

Leonida Keys & Mariana County

Leonida Keys

The tropical archipelago south of the mainland, based on the Florida Keys: small islands strung together by bridges over turquoise water. Rockstar calls it “the gateway to paradise” and describes the waters as “beautiful and dangerous.”

This is Jason's territory at the start of the game — a trailer rented from Brian Heder, drug runners for employers, and Cal Hampton listening to Coast Guard radio a short drive away. Named islands include Key Lento (Key Largo).

Grassrivers

The wetlands, based on the Everglades. Rockstar's line: “the untamable jewel of Leonida's crown,” primordial swamp with alligators and, in the studio's phrasing, “deadlier predators.”

Grassrivers is why airboats exist as a dedicated vehicle class — a first for the series. Vehicle classes →

Port Gellhorn — Kelly County

Leonida's forgotten west coast, based on Panama City and the Florida Panhandle. Rockstar's framing is the most openly bleak of any region: cheap motels, abandoned attractions, industrial docks, truck stops, warehouses and working rail lines.

It is described as running on an alternative economy fuelled by substances and truck-stop culture, while simultaneously being one of the state's primary shipping and industrial centres. That combination — heavy freight infrastructure next to genuine dereliction — is the most distinctive environment in the game after Vice City itself.

Why it matters

Ports, rail and warehouses are heist geography. A region built around shipping is a region built around things worth stealing.

Ambrosia & Lake Leonida — Ambrosia County

The centre of the state and, in Rockstar's description, the heart of Leonida — where “American industry and old school values still reign supreme.”

  • Biker gang operations — explicitly referenced in the regional description Confirmed
  • Lake Leonida — the large inland lake the region is built around, based on Lake Okeechobee

Central Florida's agricultural-industrial belt is a genuinely under-used setting in games, and it gives Rockstar a register — company towns, sugar money, bikers — that neither Vice City nor the Keys can provide.

Mount Kalaga National Park — Lummox County

The northern wilderness. Rockstar's tagline is “Wild, Wild Country”: forests, canyons and riverways.

This is the Red Dead Redemption 2 inheritance made literal. Confirmed activities here include hunting, fishing, kayaking and off-roading, and confirmed wildlife includes deer, cougars and foxes. Yorktown sits to the north-west of the park.

Leonida has a real ecology

Confirmed

Wildlife across the state includes alligators, boars, snakes, raccoons, bobcats, frogs, birds and rodents, alongside the park's deer, cougars and foxes. Press previews describe a wildlife examination and checklist recording system — a compendium, in Red Dead terms. You can also pet dogs, or scold them.

The in-game map itself got an upgrade

Confirmed

The map screen uses detailed satellite-style imagery, and the mini-map HUD renders buildings in 3D rather than as flat footprints. For a state this size with this much verticality in Vice City, that is a meaningful usability change.

The leaked full map

A complete Leonida map circulated on 18–21 August 2026

Leaked

Alongside gameplay footage, the CyberLeek leak included what appears to be the full map of Leonida from a 2025 development build. It is the source of most county-level naming and the finer settlement names on this page.

Two caveats matter. First, it is a 2025 build — regions can be renamed, resized or cut in the year that follows. Second, this wiki does not host it. The full leak timeline →

What the leak did do is corroborate the shape the community had assembled from trailers: a state with a dense south-eastern metropolis, a wetland south-west, an industrial centre, a derelict north-west coast and a forested north. Nothing in the official Extended Look contradicted it.
