Two unanswered questions

Online & the PC version

Two of the most-asked GTA 6 questions have the same answer: Rockstar has not said. Here is precisely what is known, what is inference, and what the previous two Rockstar releases suggest.

Short answer

Does GTA 6 have multiplayer?

No. GTA 6 launches on 19 November 2026 as a single-player game with no online mode and no lobby. Rockstar has not announced the structure or release date of a GTA Online successor. There is also no announced PC version — GTA V's port came 19 months after console and Red Dead Redemption 2's took 12, suggesting 2027 or later.

There is no online mode at launch

GTA 6 ships as a single-player experience

Confirmed

The 19 November 2026 release has no multiplayer component and no online lobby. Rockstar has described GTA 6 as a single-player experience.

Rockstar is reportedly not discussing online “anytime soon”

Unconfirmed

Bloomberg's Jason Schreier has reported that Rockstar does not plan to talk about what the new GTA Online will look like in the near term. Rockstar has announced no structure, no features and no date.

This is a genuine departure. GTA Online launched two weeks after GTA V and became one of the most profitable products in entertainment. Most of the press is treating a post-launch online mode as inevitable rather than uncertain — but inevitability is not an announcement, and the shape it takes is completely open.

What is actually unknown

  • Whether it bundles with GTA 6, sells separately, or uses some other structure
  • Whether it launches weeks, months or years after the campaign
  • Whether it supports crossplay
  • Whether it shares the single-player Leonida or a variant of it
  • What happens to progression, purchases and player identity from GTA Online

Treat every “GTA Online 2” detail you see as speculation

Nothing about the next online mode has been confirmed by Rockstar. Feature lists circulating under that name are invented.

What happens to GTA Online?

GTA V's online mode is still being supported

Confirmed

Rockstar has continued running and updating GTA Online through 2026, with no shutdown announced. Given GTA 6 has no competing online mode at launch, there is no immediate reason for that to change.

The interesting question is what happens when a successor does arrive — whether Rockstar runs both, migrates players, or winds one down. Nothing has been said.

The PC version

No PC version has been announced

Unconfirmed

Rockstar has said nothing about a PC release. GTA 6's announced platforms are PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S only.

What history suggests

GTA VSeptember 2013April 201519 months
Red Dead Redemption 2October 2018November 201912 months
GTA VINovember 2026Not announced

On that pattern, a PC release would land somewhere between late 2027 and 2028. That is inference from three data points, not information.

Why the delay exists at all

Console exclusivity windows for Rockstar have historically been commercial rather than technical — a second sales cycle for a game that has already been made. There is no reason to expect that logic to change for the biggest release the company has ever had.

Crossplay and cross-progression

Not applicable at launch, since there is no multiplayer. Nothing has been announced for the eventual online mode.

Worth noting that GTA Online never supported crossplay between PlayStation and Xbox, or between generations after the next-gen upgrade. Whether Rockstar changes that for the successor is entirely open.

If you are waiting

PC players

There is no announced version and no announced window. Plan for 2027 at the earliest and treat any specific date you see as fabricated until Rockstar publishes one.

Players who mainly want multiplayer

GTA 6 at launch is an 80-hour single-player crime story. If that is not what you want from the series, the honest advice is that there is currently nothing to wait for on a known schedule.

Players on PS4 or Xbox One

Last-gen support was ruled out at announcement. A current-generation console is required.
