An Extended Look — 27 August 2026

26 minutes, captured in-game on a PlayStation 5

Official

Rockstar released Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look in a first-of-its-kind partnership with Netflix. Netflix subscribers saw it six hours early at 3pm ET; it went up on the Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the official GTA VI site at 9pm ET the same day.

This is the single most important piece of GTA 6 material to date, because it is the first time Rockstar has shown the game being played rather than presented. Nearly every system on this wiki that carries a “Confirmed” label was confirmed here.

Why Netflix

Rockstar has never used a third-party streaming platform for a reveal before. The practical effect was a six-hour exclusivity window that put GTA 6 in front of a non-gaming audience, on television, in a living room — which is a different distribution strategy from a YouTube drop, not just a different venue.

Trailer 1 — 4 December 2023

The reveal. Rockstar published it a day ahead of the announced 5 December premiere after a version leaked online early — an early sign of how the entire GTA 6 cycle would go.

It set the Guinness World Record for the most-viewed video game trailer in 24 hours, breaking three records at once. Notably, on YouTube alone its 24-hour figure still exceeds Trailer 2's.

  • Song: Tom Petty, “Love Is a Long Road” (1989), scoring the entire trailer Official
  • Established: Modern-day Vice City, Lucia as protagonist, the state of Leonida, a 2025 target date
  • Distribution: YouTube exclusive — which is the key difference from Trailer 2

Trailer 2 — 6 May 2025

Released four days after the first delay announcement, and engineered for reach: every major platform simultaneously rather than a YouTube exclusive.

Rockstar claimed the biggest video launch of all time, ahead of the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer (365M) and The Fantastic Four: First Steps (200M).

Confirmed songs

Five tracks appear across Trailer 2, anchored by the Pointer Sisters' “Hot Together” (1986), with music from Wang Chung, Tammy Wynette, Zenglen and Jay Ferguson also identified. Full soundtrack tracker →

What it established

  • Jason Duval as the second protagonist, and the pair as a couple
  • The Phil's Ammu-Nation commercial — the first look at the weapon retailer Confirmed
  • A V-Rock logo on Jason's t-shirt, still the strongest hint at a returning radio station Unconfirmed
  • Much more of Leonida beyond Vice City: the Keys, wetlands, industrial coast

Was there ever a Trailer 3?

Short answer: not as such. Through mid-2026 the expectation across the community and the trade press — including Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson, who anticipated something around 6 August, near Take-Two's earnings call — was a conventional third trailer.

What Rockstar actually did was skip the format entirely and release 26 minutes of gameplay instead. The Extended Look is not a trailer, and Rockstar has not labelled it one.

A launch trailer is still expected

Unconfirmed

Rockstar has released a dedicated launch trailer for every recent major title, typically two to four weeks before release. On that pattern, expect one in late October or early November 2026. Nothing has been announced.
